Nationwide Awareness Campaign
For the past five years, the Acompora’s and the Foundation have increased their efforts on raising AED awareness to the rest of the country. The Foundation made a presentation at the National Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) conference in Washington D.C. While in Washington, the Foundation lobbied for the Federal Community Access to Emergency Defibrillation Act (Community AED Act) that will provide resources to help communities across the country implement PAD programs.
In January 2003 alone, the Foundation presented four “AEDs in the School” awareness conferences at nationwide, including a conference in Massachusetts, a presentation at the US Lacrosse convention in Baltimore, and a participant at the National Center for Early Defibrillation Conference in Panama City, Florida. All of these presentations were focused attention on the need for AEDs to be available in schools. As part of the awareness campaign, the Foundation also traveled to Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, Florida, Ohio, Minnesota, Texas, Washington, North Dakota, California and Canada.
The Foundation is also a member of the Parent Heart Watch Group, which is a state-by-state network of parents dedicated to reduce the often disastrous effects of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in children. Parent Heart Watch enables information sharing, support networks, and the formulation of nationwide programs that meet our mission and vision objectives.
In a continued effort to promote CPR and AED Education, the Foundation has partnered with the American Heart Association and North Shore University Hospital. Under the guidance of Rosemarie Ennis, the Foundation is providing the Heartsaver AED Instructor course to school districts that will implement a CPR & AED training program for students. Over 25 schools on Long Island have taken advantage of this program.
